Profile face verification
Last updated: October 29, 2026
Orbit shares your profile photo and a short selfie video with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to check that you’re a real person matching your photo.
Your profile photo and verification result stay with your account. AWS may also store and use your photos and video to improve its AI services.
What is processed and why
Orbit sends the profile photo selected for verification to Amazon Rekognition for face detection and photo suitability checks. The AWS camera SDK streams a short video selfie to Amazon Rekognition Face Liveness. Orbit then sends the returned selfie reference image and your profile photo to AWS for face comparison. These automated checks help prevent impersonation and determine whether your profile can join or host plans. Face matching can make mistakes; contact support@oorbit.in if you need help with a result.
What verification means
A successful check indicates that a live person matched the selected profile photo. It does not verify legal identity, age, gender, background, or safety.
What Orbit stores
Orbit stores profile photos in Cloudflare R2, verification outcomes and timestamps, temporary session identifiers and scores, and a record of the notice you accepted. A verification candidate stays private until it is published as your profile photo. A photo you already saved for display keeps its existing visibility. Orbit does not save the selfie video or keep the returned selfie reference image after comparison, and does not request additional AWS audit images.
Retention and deletion
Orbit schedules unused verification photos, replaced photos and completed session details for automatic cleanup. Contact support@oorbit.in for the cleanup periods that apply to your checks. Cleanup runs in the background and retries failures, so these are scheduling periods rather than guaranteed deletion deadlines. Your active profile photo, verification outcome and acknowledgement record remain with your account until changed, revoked where applicable, or removed through account deletion. Account deletion follows the grace period described in Orbit’s privacy policy.
AWS processing and retention
Amazon Web Services processes the photos and video in the AWS service region selected by Orbit, which may be outside your country. AWS states that image and video inputs may be stored and used to improve its AI services unless the AWS account has opted out. Orbit does not promise a deletion deadline for AWS-held inputs. The short expiry of a liveness session is not a promise that AWS has deleted all inputs. See AWS’s Face Liveness FAQ (https://docs.aws.amazon.com/rekognition/latest/dg/face-liveness-faq.html) and Service Terms (https://aws.amazon.com/service-terms/).
Your choice and support
You can leave before agreeing without starting face processing. Joining or hosting plans may require a successful face check. You can withdraw permission for future checks from “How face verification works” in the verification screen, or contact support@oorbit.in. Withdrawal does not undo processing already started or remove an existing profile photo or verification record. For access, correction, deletion, retention questions or help with verification, contact support@oorbit.in.
